First-ever collaboration between Type I and Type II telecommunication firms in cloud computing technology. Over 40 companies ready to jump on the bandwagon and adopt this new innovation.
Today (Aug 8th), Taiwan Mobile Co., Ltd (TWM) formed a strategic alliance with two members of the “5G Super League”—eASPNet Inc. and VMware. Together, they work hand-in-hand in the development of cloud computing technology. TMW is the first domestic Type I telecommunications firm to form an allegiance with a Type II telecom company (eASPNet). By adopting VMware’s top-tier server virtualization technology, TWM now offers “Cloud Computing Plus” services after acquiring third-party information security verification and PCI, DSS standard database. TWM’s cloud services offer stable, 24/7 cloud monitoring and technical support despite of natural disaster such as earthquake and Typhoon. It is predicted that by the end of this year, over 40 companies will jump on the bandwagon and adopt TWM’s public computing technology, which will facilitate seamless transition between private and public clouds for various enterprises.
Gartner, the global research and consulting institution, forecasted that worldwide public cloud revenue will reach 27 billion USD by 2022; an exponential growth of over 60% compared to 2018. Jamie Lin, President of TWM, has stated that when he funded his first online business in 1999, whole drives needed to be removed for any maintenance and repair; he was amazed by the immense convenience brought by cloud computing technology after a decade. Therefore, Lin deems cloud services to be a major enterprise trend in the future. In 2010, he made up his mind to popularize cloud services. When choosing cloud services, clients are especially concerned with its stability, scalability and compatibility. Thus, TWM started laying the groundwork for IaaS services in 2011. In terms of the future, TWM will continue to seek other opportunities for international cooperation.
Jamie Lin elaborates on how “Cloud Computing Plus”, the first public cloud services as a result of collaboration between Type I and Type II telecommunication firms. TWM provided professional data centers, telecommunication-grade cyber security and a wealth of cloud technology experts; while eASPNet offered VMware technology support. Once the “Cloud Computing Plus” service has been activated, not only can clients’ diverse cloud services be fulfilled; it also allows TWM’s cloud service coverage to expand and into the internet industry, high-tech manufacturing industry and the retail industry.
TWM’s “Cloud Computing Plus” service is one of the few services in telecommunication industry that uses VMware technology to provide a remote backup cloud platform. The service also offers SaaS internet support for the cloudification of companies’ internal network. Under the same IP, the employees access and save internal data through the company’s own internet network. Regardless of the employee’s location in the company, the employee will not need to deal with any complex internet settings. This will not only save time and labor expenses but also increase operating efficiency and data security. TWM “Cloud Computing Plus” service adopts VMware’s technology, so clients can transfer and extend the service in the shortest time possible, allowing companies to therefore, focus on business operation and innovation.
Jackson Wu, eASPNet Global Chairperson, emphasized the effectiveness of “virtualization” in increasing adaptability, flexibility, and scalability, while at the same time reducing costs. He also mentioned the challenges that large corporates faced after moving parts of their systems to the clouds include the cloud’s incompatibility with the existing systems, as well as the government’s cyber security regulations. This has limited cloud usage to basic computing and back-up functions. As the companies update their information system throughout the years and form their own private cloud systems, many companies decided to adopt VMware’s technology in establishing their private cloud platforms. If VMware technology were adopted for public clouds, private and public clouds would be granted seamless connection, becoming a hybrid cloud that exhibits benefits from both types of clouds. eASPNet was funded in the year 2000 and has dedicated to the maintenance of professional data center as well as high-quality cloud services. Aside from acquiring BSI ISO 27001/27011 and ISO 27017/27018 certification, eASPNet has also been approved as a legitimate service provider by the government and has received great appraisal from the market. eASPNet and TWM, formed a strategic allegiance and adopted VMware’s technology in developing multiple management and accounting systems, thereby offering the best, most stable and safest hybrid cloud services in the domestic market.
Barry Chen, General Manager of VMware, stated that being a leading and innovative company in the software industry, it’s crucial to supporting IT companies with regards to creating a multi-cloud and hybrid cloud working environment. By integrating basic cloud structure and management service, IT resource can be processed locally or on the cloud. This will greatly increase the adaptability and scalability of company’s IT system. VMware offers its full technological support in helping eASPNet and TWM develop the “Cloud Computing Plus” service. VMware looks forward to working with Taiwanese telecommunication companies in granting more Taiwanese companies access to seamless cloud connection.
